Scavenger Hunt Halloween Party Guide

Halloween is a perfect party to have a Scavenger Hunt. We have some tips on how to plan a scavenger hunt and a couple of ideas on types of scavenger hunts to have. Even though Halloween is a perfect time for a Scavenger Hunt there are other parties where a Scavenger Hunt or "Treasure Hunt" would be appropriate like for a Pirate Party or a Safari Party would be a good party to have a Safari Hunt and of course the most popular Scavenger Hunt of them all the Easter Egg Hunt with Easter Parties.

 


Decisions you need to make before planning your scavenger hunt:

  1. Decide on the treasure for the scavenger hunt
  2. Decide whether you will hide a treasure with each clue or if you will just hide clues
  3. Decide how many clues you want
  4. Decide what type of clues you will construct 


What you will need before you start planning the hunt:

  • Container for the treasure
  • The treasure (toys and/or candy)
  • Notebook and pen for writing clues
  • Notebook for your copy and notes
  • tape maybe a staple gun
  • Privacy (you don't want little eyes on you)

Setting up the hunt:

___ However many clues you are going to have you need that many pieces of paper to write your clues on. Number each page with a number, you will work backwards with these sheets. The first one you will use will be the last number. 10...9...8...7...etc.

___ Number your master list with the same numbers with 3 columns. Column headings are The number, the location, & the clue

___ Find a place to hide the treasure

___ Take out the last numbered sheet of paper and write the clue to find the treasure

___ On your master list write downt he location and the clue

___ Now find a place to hide this clue

___ Take out the next to last number sheet of paper and write the clue to find the previous clue

___ On your master list write down the location of the clue

___ Now find a place to hide this clue

___ Continue like this until you get the othe first clue

___ Figure out how to start the hunt and place the clue numbered one in that spot.


Types of Clue:

Small Riddles:

Out the door we go, looking for a clue

To help us find our treasure.

In the door to the left

You will find something used to measure.

Using this clue you woul hide your clue in a garage ona yardstick, ruler or measuring tape


Fill in the Blanks:

The ___________ helps us stay cool when it is hot and miserable outside.

Answer is pool. The clue would be placed around the pool or around a water hose.


Rebus:

Answer: Car horn, place the clue on the car horn or a little car horn in a child play car.



Invisable:

Write clues on white paper using a white crayon. Give the children colored markerst to write over the crayon to reveal the clues.


Secret Code:

Create a secret code by using signs or by assigning number 1-26 to the alphabet and write your clues in code. Give the kids a pen or pencil to reveal the clues along with a code sheet.
